Seriously? Breastfeeding in public, is still an issue?

And, worse, yet… people are actually bothered by it?

Okay, those of you, who know me know that I’m usually a “no-holds-barred” type of gal. Still, I rarely used swear words, online (in person, is a different story). But, this is to serve as a forewarning, that several will be used, in this post – mainly because the topic pisses me off so much. So, with that said… WARNING: MINI RANT AHEAD.

This past Sunday, a group of women were supposed to hold a “peaceful breastfeeding flash mob,” at one of the local malls. It was shut down, before it could even begin.

When one of of the women (the organizer) sat down to start nursing her son, a security guard confronted her and told her she needed to stop – saying they didn’t allow flash mobs.

The woman then asked, “So, you don’t allow nursing in the mall?” a mall manager replied: “Not in public, we don’t.” Yeah, I won’t be shopping at this mall, anymore.

(BTW, Michigan state law says that public nudity laws do not apply to a woman breastfeeding a child. But, Michigan is not one of the 45 states that specifically allow women to breastfeed in any public or private location.)

While I haven’t breastfed, in over 4 years, I’m still a huge supporter of it, and encourage every expecting mother, to at least give it a try (and if the decide to go the formula route, I’m okay with that, too). I nursed my son, for a year, while working full-time. You know what that means… me and my Medela were best friends. In fact, the whirring sound of the breast pump, almost became soothing to me.

So, here’s what’s got my undies in a twist… I was listening to a local radio station, this morning, and they were talking about this story, and the topic of breastfeeding in public. The guy DJ didn’t have a problem, with it. But, the woman DJ asked… “Why can’t you just go to the bathroom, and do it?”  SERIOUSLY?!? You expect me to feed my child, in a dirty ass public restroom? What am I supposed to do… copy a squat on the toilet, whip my boob out, nurse my son? That has got to be the dumbest “suggestion” I have ever heard. Dumb and disgusting. What really bugs me, is that she is not alone, in this train of thought.

Now, while I don’t agree with the whole flash mob thing (I think they’re stupid), I do agree with the motivation behind it. Women need to be able to breastfeed their babies, whenever/wherever they need too. I’ll be damned if I’d let my baby cry and go without food, just so I could find someplace to feed him, that would make others more comfortable. F-that, and F-you too, if you think that’s EVER going to happen.

I just don’t get what the big damn deal is. It’s feeding your child – not putting on a peepshow.

So, tell me, TMwM readers… are you for or against breast feeding in public? Why or why not? I’m honestly interested in your thoughts, so please share them below.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Look... It's baby Bree!

Today is my 34th birthday. Wow. I can’t believe I’m now, in my “mid-30s.” Or, as a co-worker called it… the 2nd trimester of my life.

For a lot of people, birthdays serve as a time for reflection and looking towards the future. I’m not any different. For my next 34 years, I have a few simple tenets I’d like to live by…

  1. To live life, to its fullest.
  2. To be authentic, in all I do.
  3. To be present, in all I do.

I’m so excited, to see what the future holds for me.

3 Cool Things I’m Loving Right Now

Seriously, how cute is this Etch-a-Sketch iPad Case? I saw this, on Cool Mom Picks, and fell in love with it. Now, if only someone would buy me an iPad (hint hint).

Earlier, this week, I sat in the waiting room, at The Kid’s doctor’s office, for almost two hours. He started getting bored, at 45 minutes. I found myself wishing I had brought something, for him to do. Cut to a couple of days ago, me looking on Etsy, for nothing in particular – when I came across this Crayon Roll Wallet Tote. This is such a great idea. I plan on carrying it in my purse, at all times. With a kid, as active as mine, I’m sure it’ll come in handy.

So, I know I’m late, to the DVR game, but how awesome is this invention?! There are so many things, that I don’t have time to watch, at the time they come on. And, now, I can just record them, and watch them later – without the hassle of using those awful, bulky VHS tapes!

How about you, what things are you loving, right now?

Happy October!

I love October. It’s by far, my favorite month. Why, you ask? Because, not only does the autumn season (my favorite) truly begin, but both my birthday and wedding anniversary fall in this month, too. And, don’t forget about Halloween!

Seriously, I LOVE it. The fashion – scarves, boots, sweaters, jeans, hats, jackets.  Love. It.  And, there’s always Football and the awesome weather… not too hot, not too cold.

In all actuality, October kicks off the “holiday season,” for me. You have all the October festivities, then Thanksgiving in November, Christmas and New Year’s Eve, in December, and New Year’s Day and the Hubster’s birthday in January.

Anyway, I have tons of things, going on this month. I’m not sure if that will equal more posts, or less posts. I’ll guess we’ll see.
